The Best Stillwater Trout Fishing in the Northeast
LTC Mourns George David Clee, Jr.
George David Clee, Jr., 96, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025.
George, husband to Ingrid Clee and father to Christopher Wayne Clee and Jennifer Clee Engel, was an avid fisherman and hunter; he belonged to Limestone Trout Club, Kingdom Game Club and Suffield Sportsman’s Association. He loved the outdoors. George travelled the world as part of the US Government Foreign Service and was an avid reader. We will miss his fun nature, knowledge and larger than life presence.
Fishing has always been a part of my life. While my fiancé and I live in NYC now, I grew up in LA deep sea fishing with my grandfather and dad up and down the coast. Mostly we would catch Lingcod, Halibut, and the occasional Daytime Emmy. When my grandfather passed, shortly before what was supposed to be our first family fly fishing trip, his boat was sold and the ritual outings died with him. Years later I found a Hardy rod and reel at the house we were renting in Bethel and began going with guides and learning the Beaverkill. I fell back in love with the meditative and majestic nature of fishing. Reacquainting myself with memories and life lessons learned aboard my grandfather’s boat. So, when Laury invited us to the property for the first time, as we drove in it felt as if we were passing through the gates of fly fishing Valhalla. Thinking, this is a place I would love to belong to and contribute to in whatever ways would preserve its magic.
Outside of fishing, my interests include playing sports, such as basketball and squash, as well as backgammon, poker, hiking, gardening, music, skeet shooting, painting, collecting and restoring furniture, and film. Professionally, I am a writer for movies, television, theater, opera and commercials that’s been working across these fields for nearly a decade. So much of my day-to-day work is spent screen staring - which is why a sanctuary like the LTC is something to cherish for the spiritual palette cleanser it provides.
I’ve belonged to a few clubs including the Del Ray Yacht Club and the Buffalo Tennis and Squash Club and they’ve all instilled that sense of respite as well as community. Aside from the fishing, one of the things I’m most excited for as a prospective member is helping maintain and grow the LTC. Joining ranks with fellow anglers who only want to see this institution continue to flourish and as a younger member I’d love to advance its traditions for years to come.
